Academic Personnel
The Scripps Oceanography academic personnel office is responsible for the management and administration of academic affairs for the institution. As of August 1, 2006, there were 388 academics at Scripps, including 138 faculty members (including emeriti, adjunct, and in-residence), 79 researchers (including emeriti), 26 project scientists, 18 specialists, 83 postdoctoral scholars, 30 research associates, and 14 other holders of other related positions, including visiting scholars, academic administrators/coordinators, Green scholars, and elected Scripps faculty members). The office reviews and analyzes all academic personnel actions, including senate and non-senate appointments, merits, promotions, appraisals, retentions, terminations, leaves, salary administration, affirmative action, visas, prinicipal investigator exception requests and policy exception requests. Our mission is to provide expert advice and outstanding service to the vice chancellor for marine sciences, associate deans, division directors, faculty, MSOs and departmental/divisional staff members regarding all academic personnel policies and actions.
Academic personnel policies and procedures are complex and confidential and require attention to detail and discretion. There are two staff members in the office.
